The Chicago Blackhawks enter the offseason with eight draft picks for the NHL draft, which is June 22-23 at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Among Chicago’s eight picks two are in the first and third rounds.
The Hawks will have a top-10 pick for the first time since they selected Patrick Kane with the top overall pick in 2007. Chicago will select No. 8 overall after dropping one spot in the draft lottery. Its second first-round selection at No. 27 comes from Nashville via the Ryan Hartman trade. The Hawks also have the Predators’ fourth-round pick, while they sent a fifth-round pick to Nashville.
Chicago doesn’t have a second-round pick because they sent it and Phillip Danault to Montreal in the February 2016 trade for Tomas Fleischmann and Dale Weise.
The Hawks’ second third-round pick comes from Toronto via the Michal Kempny trade. Washington had previously acquired the pick from the Maple Leafs and the condition of the Kempny trade was Chicago would receive the higher pick of the two picks the Capitals had.
Chicago’s original fourth-round pick was sent to Dallas along with Mark McNeill in the February 2017 trade for Johnny Oduya. The fourth-round pick the Hawks do have comes from the Hartman trade.
Chicago acquired Columbus’ fifth-round pick at last year’s draft in the Artemi Panarin—Brandon Saad trade.
