Luke Johnson is heading back to the Blackhawks five days after the team assigned him to the AHL. Chicago recalled Johnson on Tuesday after assigning goaltender Anton Forsberg to the Rockford IceHogs after the Swedish netminder cleared waivers.
Johnson had a goal and assist in two games with Rockford during his AHL stint. The 24-year-old started his season in the NHL. He recorded two shots and was 38.46 percent on faceoffs while averaging about 9 minutes per game on the Blackhawks’ fourth line.
Johnson, a 2013 fifth-round draft pick, tallied 30 points (13 goals, 17 assists) in 73 regular-season games for the Rockford IceHogs last season. He added four goals and four assists in 13 Calder Cup playoff games.
Forsberg, 25, was 10-16-4 with a 2.97 goals-against average and .908 save percentage last season in 35 NHL appearances.
The Blackhawks (4-2-2) host the Ducks on Tuesday night at the United Center.
