NBC Sports “sideline” reporter Pierre McGuire delivered a painfully awkward interview with Jonathan Toews after the Blackhawks’ 6-3 win over the Penguins on Wednesday.
McGuire first dismissed interviewing forward Andreas Martinsen, who had his first multipoint game in the NHL with a goal and assist and was named the game’s No. 1 star. It’s customary for the game’s top player to talk to a reporter such as McGuire after the game, so that was the first weird part.
But McGuire took it to a new level when he started his interview with Toews.

PM: “Chicago, your great captain Jonathan Toews.”
JT: “Hi Pierre.”
PM: “They still love you, Jonathan.”
JT: “That’s good.” *awkward chuckle*
Toews had a goal and two assists, including an empty-net goal for his 700th career NHL point, in Chicago’s win. The victory snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Blackhawks.
