For the third time in two weeks, the Blackhawks placed a player on injured reserve as they go through concussion protocol. On Wednesday morning, it was forward Marcus Kruger that was placed on IR, retroactive to Dec. 18, and forward Luke Johnson was recalled from the AHL.

Kruger sustained a concussion and received stitches after a hit by Predators forward Ryan Hartman in the second period of Chicago’s 2-1 win Tuesday.

Kruger left the game and did not return. He has four goals and an assist in 33 games this season.

Earlier in the day, the Blackhawks activated center Artem Anisimov from IR after he missed four games with a concussion. Kruger’s concussion came one game after goaltender Corey Crawford suffered his second concussion in less than a year Sunday.

Johnson started the season with the Blackhawks, recording his first and only NHL point with an assist Oct. 31 at Vancouver. He’s been bounced back and forth between the IceHogs and Blackhawks, with 13 NHL games played. He has four goals and three assists in 10 AHL games with Rockford
