The AHL named Rockford IceHogs defenseman Andrew Campbell the Western Conference’s captain for the AHL All-Star Classic on Thursday. Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward Colin McDonald will captain the Eastern Conference team.

The 30-year-old Campbell is the first Rockford player to serve as captain at the event.

Captains for the All-Star teams were selected by AHL president David Andrews in recognition of their outstanding leadership and service.

The All-Star weekend will be Jan. 27-28 at MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. A skills competition will be held the first day, followed by the 3-on-3 round-robin tournament with all four AHL divisions playing against one another.

The Blackhawks acquired Campbell in the Marian Hossa trade with the Coyotes. Campbell was originally drafted by the Kings in the third round in the 2008 NHL draft.

Campbell scored his first goal with Rockford on Oct. 28 against Manitoba. He has 19 shots on goal and 14 penalty minutes while serving as one of six alternate captains for the IceHogs.
