Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy is “feeling fine” according to coach Jeremy Collition after taking an elbow to from Stars forward Tyler Pitlick late in the third period Thursday in Dallas.

Murphy was skating back into his defensive zone while Dallas was on an odd-man rush. As Pitlick skated near Murphy, his left elbow caught Murphy in the face, and Murphy immediately crumbled to the ice. As he came to a halt near the goal line extended, blood began pouring from Murphy’s face.

Play was stopped moments later, and Murphy did not return for the final 2:52. Murphy was playing in just his seventh game of the season after a back injury just before training camp forced him to miss the first two months of the season.

It was the third straight game Chicago had a player exit a game early. On Sunday, goaltender Corey Crawford left with a concussion after a collision in the crease and forward Marcus Kruger departed after taking an elbow to the face from Predators forward Ryan Hartman. Both Crawford and Kruger were placed on injured reserve the next day as they go through concussion protocol.
