The Captain won’t be returning to action after all.
On Tuesday, Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville told reporters that Jonathan Toews had not been cleared from his upper-body injury and would not be taking the ice when the Hawks face the St. Louis Blues on the road Wednesday night.

Just 24 hours earlier, Quenneville told the media that Toews was expected to play in the game, with Toews himself giving a positive update on his status following the injury that’s had him out since March 20.

It seems like Toews is closer to a return than he is to being shut down for the rest of the season. But after Wednesday’s game, Toews will only have two more opportunities to get back in the lineup before he and the rest of the Blackhawks take off for the longest offseason they’ve had in a decade.
