Patrick Kane scores in Team USA’s 6-2 loss to Finland at World Championship

The U.S. will play the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane scored a goal and added an assist for Team USA in a 6-2 loss to Finland in the Americans’ final preliminary round game Tuesday at the World Championship in Herning, Denmark.

Carolina Hurricanes forward Derek Ryan also scored, while Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy recorded primary assists on both goals. New Jersey Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid made 30 saves on 36 shots.

Carolina’s Sebastian Aho scored a hat trick for Finland to push his tournament goal total to nine. Columbus Blue JacketsMarkus Nutivaara had two assists.

Colorado Avalanche’s Mikko Rantanen, Toronto Maple LeafsKasperi Kapanen and former Blackhawks draft pick Mark Anttila scored for Finland. Goaltender Harri Säteri, a Florida Panthers prospect, stopped 31 of 33 shots in the win.

Finland and Team USA both earned 16 points in the round-robin preliminary round, but the Finns won Group B based on a head-to-head tiebreaker. Finland will face Switzerland, who finished fourth in Group A, in the quarterfinals, while Team USA will play Group A’s third-seeded Czech Republic on Thursday.
