The two Division I men’s college hockey teams closest to Chicago will return to the United Center for a second straight year as Notre Dame and Wisconsin will play at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. The game was announced Tuesday.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Oct. 11.
Last season, Wisconsin snapped then No. 1-ranked Notre Dame’s program-record 16-game winning streak with a 5-0 victory. The Fighting Irish also fell 6-1 to Denver in a 2017 national semifinal at the United Center.
Wisconsin sophomore defenseman Joshua Ess is the lone Blackhawks prospect among the two teams. Ess, a 2017 seventh-round pick, tallied two goals and two assists in 33 games last season with the Badgers.
Notre Dame and Wisconsin have plenty of Illinois talent with six players each. Wisconsin sophomore defenseman Tyler Inamoto of Barrington is the lone player among the 12 Illinois natives to be drafted by a NHL team. He was selected in the fifth round in the 2017 NHL draft in Chicago by the Florida Panthers. Inamoto had a goal and three assists in 37 games last season for Wisconsin.
