Blackhawks’ Artem Anisimov scores as Russia wins bronze at 2019 World Championship

Blackhawks forward Artem Anisimov scored a goal in regulation during Russia’s 3-2 shootout victory over the Czech Republic and prospect Dominik Kubalik to win the World Championship bronze-medal game Sunday in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Anisimov’s tallied the game-tying goal just 39 seconds into the second period when his shot deflected off Philadelphia’s Radko Gudas and through Czech goaltender Simon Hrubec’s five-hole.

Los Angeles’ Ilya Kovalchuk and Vegas’ Nikita Gusev both scored in the shootout for Russia, who won their third bronze in the last four World tournaments.

The 31-year-old Anisimov racked up four goals and six points in 10 tournament games. It’s the third career World senior medal for him. He also won gold in 2014 and silver in 2015.

Kubalik, who will turn 24 years old in August, scored his sixth goal of the tournament to give the Czechs a 2-1 lead at 18:34 of the first period before Anisimov tied it in the second.

Kubalik, a 6-foot-2, 179-pound left winger, was one of the breakout players in the tournament, scoring six goals and 12 points. Chicago acquired his rights in January from the Kings in exchange for a fifth-round pick, and he has reportedly agreed to terms on a contract with the Blackhawks.

Former Blackhawks winger Michael Frolik and defenseman Jan Rutta also suited up for the Czech Republic. Frolik paced the team with seven goals and his 14 points were was second to Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek’s 16. Rutta chipped a goal and two assists.
