2019 NHL Draft: Blackhawks select Cole Moberg with No. 194 pick in 7th round

The Blackhawks selected right-handed defenseman Cole Moberg of the Western Hockey League’s Prince George Cougars with the No. 194th overall pick in the seventh round of the NHL draft Saturday in Vancouver.

Moberg tallied a career-high 13 goals and 40 points in 61 games in his second full WHL season. The 6-foot-2, 187-pounder was ranked No. 136 by NHL Central Scouting among North American skaters. He will play for Prince George next season.

Chicago acquired the pick from the Ducks as a result of a trade in March 2017 that sent Spencer Abbott and Sam Carrick to Anaheim in exchange for Kenton Helgesen and the pick.

The Blackhawks’ own seventh-round pick (No. 198) in this year’s draft and defenseman Jan Rutta went to the Lightning in January in exchange for defenseman Slater Koekkoek and a 2019 fifth-round pick. Chicago sent that 2019 fifth and forward Dominik Kahun to the Penguins for defenseman Olli Maatta earlier this month.
