2019 World Championship: 3 Blackhawks, 2 prospects advance to semifinals
Kevin Lankinen had an assist and 14 saves as Finland ended Sweden’s three-peat bid.
The Blackhawks will have three players and two prospects competing in the semifinals of the World Championship on Saturday in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Defenseman Henri Jokiharju and goalie prospect Kevin Lankinen and No. 4 seed Finland will face top-seeded Russia and forward Artem Anisimov in one semifinal.
The other semifinal will see forward Dylan Strome and No. 2 seed Canada take on forward prospect Dominik Kubalik and No. 3 Czech Republic.
Thursday’s quarterfinal results
Finland 5, Sweden 4 (OT)
Defenseman Erik Gustafsson scored what looked to be the game-winning goal for Sweden in the final minute of the second period, but former Chicago prospect Marko Anttila sent the game to overtime with 1:29 left in regulation. Sakari Manninen then netted the game-winner just 1:37 into the extra frame off an assist from Lankinen to end Sweden’s three-peat bid.

Gustafsson sent a blast from the blue line past Lankinen that hit the net camera with 25 seconds remaining in the second.

Lankinen made 14 saves in the win and Jokiharju fired one shot on net.
Gustafsson had four points (two goals, two assists) in the tournament, and Kruger logged three points (two goals, one assist).
Russia 4, United States 3
Anisimov and the Russians eliminated the United States and Chicago teammates Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane to advance. Kane dished out two primary assists, including one to DeBrincat in the loss.

Kane led the Americans with 10 assists and 12 points, and DeBrincat paced the team with seven goals and his nine points were to second to Kane.
Anisimov, who has five points in the tournament, fired one shot on net and did not record a point in the victory.
Canada 3, Switzerland 2 (OT)
Devils defenseman Damon Severson scored with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime then Golden Knights winger Mark Stone netted the game-winner 5:07 into the extra frame for Canada.
Strome fired two shots on net in the win.
The loss eliminates Switzerland and Blackhawks forward prospect Philipp Kurashev from the tournament. The 2018 fourth-round pick had one goal and one assist.
Czech Republic 5, Germany 1
Forward prospect Dominik Kubalik scored his fifth goal for his 11th point of the tournament in the win.

Germany’s loss ends Dominik Kahun’s run at the tournament, where he scored five points (one goal, four assists).
