World Juniors 2019: Medal round schedule, TV, game thread

The Blackhawks have a chance at having a player on every stand of the podium at the World Junior Championship.

Center Philipp Kurashev (Switzerland) faces off against Russia in the bronze-medal game, while defenseman Henri Jokiharju (Finland) meets center Evan Barratt (United States) in the gold-medal game.

Kurashev scored his tournament-leading sixth goal on the power play in Switzerland’s 6-1 semifinal loss to Finland on Friday. He also has an assist for seven points to tie three other skaters for second in the tournament.

Jokiharju also netted a power play goal in the semifinal game. He has two goals and two assists in the tournament. Finnish winger Kaapo Kakko, who is projected to be the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NHL draft, tallied his first goal of the tournament in Finland’s win over Switzerland. He has a goal and three assists in the tournament.

Barratt hasn’t been able to find the scoresheet since scoring in the Americans’ opening game of the tournament. Center Jack Hughes, who is slated to be the top overall pick in June, missed three preliminary games but has an assist in each of his two playoff round games.

The Americans defeated Finland 4-1 in the preliminary round game on New Year’s Eve without Hughes. The two countries are no strangers to the big stage recently as they’ve met in the 2017 and 2018 under-18 World Juniors gold-medal games.

Games will be broadcasted on NHL Network in the United States and TSN in Canada.
