NHL: Chicago Blackhawks at New York Islanders Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

David Toews scored 1:48 into overtime to hand the Blackhawks a 3-2 overtime loss to the Islanders on Thursday at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island in Uniondale, New York.

The IceHogs visit the Iowa Wild on Friday.

Elsewhere in Chicago sports, the Fire signed head coach Veljko Paunovic to a two-year extension with an option for a third year. The Fire are 31-46-26 with one MLS Cup Playoffs appearance under Paunovic.

The White Sox reportedly made their first formal offer to free agent infielder Manny Machado. The Bulls host the rival Pacers on Friday at the United Center.
