Drake Caggiula will stick with No. 91 for the Blackhawks, the team announced Saturday morning.
Chicago acquired Caggiula in a four-player deal with the Oilers in late December. The 24-year-old has seven goals and four assists with an average 14:03 of ice time in 29 games this season. He posted a career-high 20 points last season. His contract runs through the 2019-20 season with a $1.5 million annual salary cap hit.
Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said after Caggiula decided to sign with the Oilers after his playing days at the University of North Dakota, the Blackhawks continued to track his play and he believes Caggiula is “going to complement our team.”
Caggiula wore Nos. 36 and 91 with the Oilers.
He will be only the third player to wear No. 91 in Blackhawks history. It hasn’t had a long lifespan in Chicago with forwards Brad Richards (2015) and Anthony Duclair (2018) each wearing it for only one season.
