The Blackhawks placed defenseman Gustav Forsling on injured reserve with an upper-torso injury, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.

Forsling missed the last two games for Chicago with the injury.

Forsling has two goals and four assists in 19 NHL games this season. He has primarily skated with veteran Brent Seabrook in a second pairing role.

Brandon Davidson has played in Forsling’s place in his absence. The Blackhawks activated Davidson from IR on Jan. 3 after he completed his rehab from having right knee surgery in late November.

Chicago currently has seven active defensemen on its roster: Carl Dahlstrom, Erik Gustafsson, Henri Jokiharju, Duncan Keith, Connor Murphy, Brent Seabrook and Davidson. Jokiharju will make his 2019 debut for the Blackhawks on Wednesday night against the Predators at the United Center after winning gold at the World Junior Championship with the Finnish men’s national junior team.
