Blackhawks prospect Niklas Nordgren returned to training for the first time in nine months this week. The 2018 third-round pick has been out due to multiple injuries and practiced with HIFK’s under-20 team. The 19-year-old Finnish winger could slot into HIFK’s junior lineup alongside 2022 projected first rounder Brad Lambert, who already has 18 points in 19 games as a 15-year-old.

Nordgren scored 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 13 games with HIFK U20 team last season and had seven points (four goals, three assists) in 15 Liiga games.

Andrei Altybarmakyan, LW (KHL, HK Sochi/VHL HK Tambov)

Weekly stats: 3 GP, 0P (VHL HK Tambov)

Season stats: 15 GP, 2G, 4A, 15.4 SOG%, -1, 9 hits, 3 BLS, 21 PIM, 11:33 ATOI (KHL HK Sochi)

Altybarmakyan has dropped from the KHL to HK Tambov in the VHL, Russia’s second division. HK Tambov is one of a few VHL teams that are independent and are not affiliated with a KHL club. The reason behind the move for the 21-year-old is unclear with no details given on either team’s website.

Victor Ejdsell, C (SHL, Färjestad BK)

Weekly stats: 2 GP, 2G, 1 hit

Season stats: 14 GP, 4G, 5A, 2 PIM, 9 hits, 3 BLS, 16:31 ATOI

Ejdsell tallied a goal in each game this week. He tallied the game-tying goal against Linkopings to send the game to overtime then had the opening goal in a win over HV 71. The Blackhawks hold his rights after giving him a qualifying offer after he returned to Sweden on a two-year deal.

Mathias From, W (HockeyAllsvenskan, Modo)

Weekly stats: 1 GP, 1G

Season stats: 11 GP, 3G, 5A, 6 PIM, +7

From is off to a good start to the season with Modo, and that continue last week with a goal against Vasterviks IK. His goal came near the midway point in the second period when he skated to the front of the net and tapped in the loose puck. The Danish winger’s draft rights expire after this season.

Jakub Galvas, LH-D (Liiga, Jukurit)

Weekly stats: 2 GP, 3 SOG, -2

Season stats: 16 GP, 1G, 8A, +7, 4 PIM, 21:38 ATOI

Galvas won’t be wearing the golden helmet as Jukurit’s top scorer this week after he did not score a point and two teammates of his teammates did. Galvas was on the ice for three goals this past week in two games Jukurit struggled to contain the opposition in a 5-2 loss to JYP and 4-1 loss to KooKoo. The 20-year-old leads Jukurit in ice time and is tied sixth in points among all Liiga blue liners.

Artur Kayumov, W (KHL, Lokomotiv)

Weekly stats: 3 GP, 1G, 2A, 4 SOG, 2 PIM, 3 hits, 1 BLK, +3

Season stats: 18 GP, 4G, 3A, 11.4 SOG%, 4 PIM, 6 hits, 12 BLK, 15:53 ATOI

Kayumov scored points in back-to-back games for the first time this season. He was held off the scoresheet against Traktor and aside from two hits and a block wasn’t all that noticeable. Then he had a nifty backhanded goal against Barys and a primary assist against SKA St. Petersburg.

Kayumov’s KHL contract expires at the end of the season, and if he plays like he did this week he could sign with the Blackhawks and play in the AHL next season.

Roope Laavainen, RH-D (Liiga, HPK)

Weekly stats: 1 GP, 2:08 TOI

Season stats: 12 GP, 2A, 4 PIM, -2, 12:29 ATOI

Laavainen left HPK’s game with an injury after only 2:08 minutes. His status going forward is unclear.

Ivan Nalimov, G (KHL, HK Sochi)

Weekly stats: 2 GP

Season stats: 4 GP, 1-3, 2.25 GAA, .922 SV%

Nalimov made 22 and 24 saves in two games this past week, with the latter coming in his first win since he was traded to Sochi. The wild 4-3 overtime game against Metallurg two weeks ago remains the lone game he’s allowed more than two goals in a game this season.

Wouter Peeters, G (EIHL, Guilford)

Weekly stats: DNP

Season stats: 1 GP, 2 GA, .941 SV%

Peeters did not play for Guilford this past week.

Antti Saarela, C (Liiga, Ilves)

Weekly stats: 2 GP, 1A, +3

Season stats: 9 GP, 1G, 2A, +4, 47 FO%, 2 PIM, 10:27 ATOI

For the first time since Oct. 2, Saarela scored a point with a secondary assist on Ilves’ opening goal against Tappara. He lost an offensive zone faceoff draw then forced a turnover and slipped a pass to a teammate to start the scoring sequence. He was 16.7 percent on six faceoffs in the game then improved to 37.5 percent on eight draws against the Pelicans.

Max Shalunov, C (KHL, CSKA Moscow)

Weekly stats: DNP

Season stats: 16 GP, 4G, 2A, 39 SOG, 8 PIM, +6, 50.3 FO%, 10 hits, 8 BLS, 14:40 ATOI

Shalunov did not play this past week in CSKA Moscow’s three games.
