2019 World Championship: Former Blackhawk Dennis Rasmussen sends Sweden to quarterfinals

Sweden 5, Latvia 4

Defenseman Erik Gustafsson and forward Marcus Kruger both recorded one shot in Sweden’s win over Latvia.

Gustafsson was on the ice for two goals against.

Former Blackhawks forward Dennis Rasmussen (KHL Metallurg Magnitogorsk) scored an empty-net goal for the game winner with 34 seconds remaining in regulation.

With the victory, the Swedes became the last team from Group B to qualify for the quarterfinal round. The other three teams are Russia, Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Canada 5, Denmark 0

Forward Dylan Strome did not record a shot or a point in Canada’s shutout win against Denmark.

Prospect Mathias From played in his third consecutive game for the Danes.

Relegation battles

Both Great Britain and Italy avoided relegation with victories over France and Austria, respectively. The Brits stayed up with Ben Davies’ overtime goal and Sean McMonagle scored the winner in a seven-round shootout for the Italians.
