The Bruins pulled away from the Blues late in Game 6 for a 5-1 victory to force the winner-take-all Game 7. It’s the first Stanley Cup Final Game 7 since 2011, when Boston defeated the Canucks in Vancouver and the first on home ice for the Bruins.
It’ll be the ninth championship Game 7 in Boston sports history, and the first in exactly 35 years when the Celtics defeated the Lakers in the 1984 NBA Finals. Boston is 6-2 in Game 7s, including a 2-1 record against St. Louis teams. The Cardinals hold the lone win in Game 7s against Boston teams with a victory in the 1967 World Series, the same year the Blues were founded.
Former Blackhawks winger Joakim Nordstrom has one goal and three assists in the Cup Final for the Bruins, who are coached by former Chicago defenseman and assistant coach Bruce Cassidy. Chicago Steel alum and Winnetka native John Moore is also with the Bruins.
