The game will mark the first time the Sharks will play at the United Center since Dec. 16, 2018, when Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford suffered his second concussion in less than a year that caused him to miss two months of action. The Blackhawks went 1-2 against the Sharks last season, with their lone win with Crawford in net for a 5-4 victory in March at San Jose.
Chicago is 5-2-1 in home openers this decade, including a 1-2-1 record in their last four.
The Blackhawks open the season Oct. 4 as the road team against the Flyers in Prague, Czech Republic, as part of the third annual NHL Global Series. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. Central time at O2 Arena. Chicago will play six preseason games in the United States before an exhibition game Sunday, Sept. 29 against Eisbaren Berlin in Berlin, Germany.
The complete NHL schedule will be released at 11 a.m. Tuesday live on NHL Network.
