Blackhawks assign Dennis Gilbert, Anton Wedin to AHL

The Blackhawks assigned defenseman Dennis Gilbert and forward Anton Wedin to the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL on Monday. Earlier in the day, Chicago placed defenseman Carl Dahlstrom on waivers. He’ll need to clear waivers in order to join Gilbert and Wedin in Rockford.

Both Dahlstrom and Gilbert were competing with Slater Koekkoek, who is not waiver-exempt, for the seventh defenseman role. Wedin was one of a host of players vying for a bottom-six role.

Chicago’s final 23-man roster is due at 4 p.m. Tuesday ahead of the team’s season opener Friday against Philadelphia in Prague.
