2020 NHL Draft results: Blackhawks select Isaak Phillips with No. 141 pick

The Blackhawks selected left-handed defenseman Isaak Phillips of the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League with the No. 141 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday.

Phillips scored nine goals and 17 assists last season in 63 games this past season. The 19-year-old defenseman stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 194 pounds. He plays a very defensively dominant game and needs to continue to grow offensively.

Phillips, who will remain with Wolves, is the eighth player the Blackhawks have selected from Sudbury and the first since 2007 (Akim Aliu).

Chicago previously drafted five players at No. 141: defensemen Luc Snuggerud (2014) and Mike St. Cyr (1974), left wing Steve Alley (1973), center Sean Simpson (1980), right wing Gary Donaldson (1972). The Blackhawks drafted three years in a row from 1972-74 but had not drafted there since 2014.

The Blackhawks have one pick remaining in this year’s draft at No. 172 in the sixth round. Chicago had two picks in the third round and one pick in every round besides that aside from the seventh when they have none.
