2020 NHL Draft results: Blackhawks select Chad Yetman with No. 172 pick

The Blackhawks selected forward Chad Yetman of the Erie Otters in the OHL with the No. 172 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday.

The Whitby, Ontario native completed a breakout third season with Erie, scoring 43 goals with 31 assists in 61 games before the season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He joined Erie one season after current Blackhawks Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome teamed up on the Otters and won the OHL in the ‘16-17 season.

The 20-year-old Yetman is 5-foot-11 and weighs 179 pounds, with his position listed as center or right wing. His strong final season in the OHL caught the attention of league coaches and he was voted the most underrated player in the Western Conference.

Not only did Yetman rack up the points, he also displayed an ability to handle PK minutes during his last season with the Otters.

It’s the first time the Blackhawks have selected a player at No. 172.
