2020 World Juniors: Blackhawks prospect Alec Regula named to Team USA’s camp roster
The defenseman has 11 goals and 26 points in 25 games for the London Knights in the OHL.
USA Hockey named Blackhawks defenseman prospect Alec Regula to the United States national junior team’s preliminary roster for the 2020 World Junior Championship on Monday.
Regula missed the World Junior Summer Showcase in July with a knee injury, but is off to a strong start this season with the London Knights in the OHL. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound blue liner is on a hot streak with two power-play goals and three assists in his past six games. He’s averaging more than a point per game with 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 25 games in his third OHL season.
The Blackhawks acquired Regula in October from the Red Wings in exchange for forward Brendan Perlini then signed Regula the next month to an entry-level contract. It’s unlikely Regula will play with the Blackhawks or their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, this season since London is expected, as always, to make a deep OHL playoff run.
