Lukas Reichel described being drafted by the Blackhawks as an “unreal moment” Tuesday.
Or make that Wednesday morning in Berlin, Germany. Despite the early hour, the 18-year-old left wing was pretty excited when he heard the news.

Reichel scored 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in 42 games last season for Eisbaren Berlin in Germany’s top division. He also skated in Berlin’s exhibition game against the Blackhawks before the start of last season as part of the 2020 NHL Global Series.
“When I was younger my favorite player was always Patrick Kane and my favorite team was always Chicago,” Reichel said during a Zoom interview with media. “Now I’m a Blackhawk too and that’s so awesome.”
