Adam Boqvist likely to play in Blackhawks’ final 3 preseason games

Adam Boqvist will likely play in the Chicago Blackhawks’ final three preseason games, coach Joel Quenneville told Scott Powers of The Athletic on Sunday.

Boqvist, who turned 18 in August, will try to make his case to Quenneville and the Hawks to take a spot on the team’s opening-night roster in front of the United Center crowd. Chicago plays all three of its final preseason contests this week at home.

Boqvist’s play early in the preseason and injuries to Connor Murphy (back) and Jan Rutta (groin) have helped give the Hawks’ first-round draft pick added time on the ice to compete for a roster spot. If Boqvist does indeed make the team, Chicago will have to decided whether to keep him up after nine games before burning a year on his entry-level contract.

The Hawks can have Boqvist play under the nine-game limit than assign him to his junior team, the London Knights in the OHL. The Knights selected him in the second round of the 2017 CHL Import draft.

In the 25 games Boqvist played for Brynäs last season in Sweden, he had 14 goals and 10 assists.
