Anthony Louis scores shootout game-winner in AHL debut

The first professional game for Blackhawks prospect Anthony Louis was a memorable one as he scored the game-winning shootout goal to lead the Rockford IceHogs to a 2-1 victory over the Manitoba Moose.

Pretty nifty moves there from the 22-year-old, who recently signed an entry-level deal with the Blackhawks after finishing his senior year at Miami (Ohio). There are still questions about whether Louis will be able to overcome his lack of size at the NHL level, but you can see the speed and skill that should give him a shot.

Louis doesn’t get a point for scoring in the shootout, but he played well in regulation leading up to that moment. The forward had four shots on goal, and should add a welcomed dose of scoring to the IceHogs after they lost top scorers Mark McNeill, Spencer Abbott, and Sam Carrick in midseason trades.

As a senior at Miami (Ohio), Louis put up 14 goals and 25 assists in 36 games. The Illinois native should get an extended look from the Blackhawks in camp next season, although he’ll have a lot of competition from other small, speedy players like Vinnie Hinostroza and Alex DeBrincat.
