Anthony Louis, Luc Snuggerud named to NCHC all-conference teams
The Blackhawks prospects were among the best in college hockey this season.
Chicago Blackhawks prospects Anthony Louis and Luc Snuggerud were named to the NCHC all-conference teams on Wednesday. The honors reward them for being two of the best players in college hockey this season.
Louis, a senior forward at Miami (Ohio), put up big numbers for the RedHawks to earn a winger spot on the first team. He scored 13 goals and dished 24 assists in 34 games, setting a career-high with 37 points in his fourth NCAA season.
There are questions about whether Louis will be able to carry over his production to the next level given his size (5’7, 150 pounds), but he’s consistently put up numbers in college with 124 points in 143 games.
That should at least earn him a contract offer from the Blackhawks, although his future remains uncertain given that he could bolt as a free agent a la Kevin Hayes if he waits until late in the summer.
The Hawks tried to sign Louis last summer, but he opted to return for one final year at Miami. He told The Athletic in October that he still intended to sign with Chicago following the season, though. “That’s my plan as of now, especially being a hometown kid,” Louis said. “It’s been a dream of mine to play for the Blackhawks one day. I’m going to work to do that.”
Snuggerud earned all-conference second team honors with a monster junior year at Nebraska-Omaha. The offensive defenseman has put up 11 goals and 20 assists in 36 games, developing into an exciting prospect over the past couple years. He’s sure to get a contract offer from the Blackhawks this summer given the risk of letting him go into his senior year unsigned. They’ll want him in the system next season just like Louis.
