Blackhawks 2017 playoff picture: March 23

The Chicago Blackhawks have nine games left in the regular season and are battling for playoff positioning. Each day until the end of the regular season, we’ll breakdown their chances at a spot and seeding in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Wednesday’s results

Anaheim beat Edmonton to take over the second place in the Pacific Division. The Ducks’ win also puts them three points clear of Calgary, who are fourth in the Pacific and hold the first wild-card spot.

Thursday’s scoreboard watch

If the playoffs were to begin Wednesday, the Hawks would be the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and play the second wild-card team — Nashville.

The Hawks wrap up their three-game homestand when they play Dallas. Chicago holds a six-point lead over Minnesota for the top spot in the Central Division and Western Conference. St. Louis, who claims the third spot in the Central, hosts Vancouver while Nashville is at home against Calgary. Nashville and St. Louis are tied at 83 points. Calgary sits in the first wild-card spot, but they’re only a point back of Edmonton.
