Blackhawks 2017 playoff picture: April 1

The Chicago Blackhawks have four games left in the regular season and are battling for playoff positioning. Each day until the end of the regular season, we’ll breakdown their chances at a spot and seeding in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Friday’s results

The Flames clinched a playoff spot with a 5-2 victory over the Sharks. The Kings beat Vancouver to stave off elimination. They are eight points behind Nashville with both trams having five games to play.

The Islanders won to come within four points of the Bruins in the second Eastern wildcard, but may have lost John Tavares to a lower body injury. The Penguins beat the Rangers in the shootout and now trail the second-place Blue Jackets by one point.

In the Central Division, the Blues lost to the Avalanche in the shootout, the one point giving them enough to clinch. Chicago’s 3-1 win brings them within three points of the league-leading Capitals, who lost 6-3 to the Coyotes last night. Minnesota is nine points  behind Chicago with a game in hand.

Saturday’s scoreboard watch

If the playoffs started today, the Hawks would be the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and play the No. 2 wild card team — Nashville.

The Hawks next game will see them play the Bruins in a Sunday matinee.
