The IceHogs are having a mediocre season so far, with a 15-16-3-1 record that’s good for fifth in the Central Division. The high-level stats aren’t great either: the team is in the bottom half of the league in terms of both goals for (21st) and against (25th). This drop in the standings isn’t unexpected considering the player exits from last year and the prospect promotions to the NHL this season. Losing their biggest offensive threat — Frank Nazar — in December especially threw them for a bit of a loop.
The IceHogs have found their footing a bit recently, though they’ve still produced middling results with a 5-4-0-1 record in their last 10. Their latest game was their best in a long while: a 5-0 thrashing of the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday when the IceHogs did a great job suppressing shots (only allowed 25) while finding their offensive touch. Rockford will need a lot more games like that if they want to be competitive down the stretch and make the playoffs.
