The Rockford IceHogs’ 2025-26 season has been a mix of promising individual performances and frustrating team results. Sitting fifth in the Central Division, Rockford hasn’t been able to find much consistency lately, going 3-5-1-1 in their last 10 games. It’s the kind of stretch that makes every point in the standings feel heavier than it should. The IceHogs did win their latest game, a 4-3 victory over the Iowa Wild on Wednesday, but the Wild are objectively the worst team in the AHL this season and still it was difficult to get the victory. Not ideal.

The bright side for the IceHogs mostly revolved around Nick Lardis, who has shown legitimate offensive firepower and ranked among the league’s top scorers since the opening few games. But outside of Brett Seney and Dominic Toninato being solid veteran presences, the forward production is severely lacking. Defense is similarly limited: Kevin Korchinski has upped his game this season and become a steady contributor, and while others like Nolan Allan and Ethan Del Mastro have been holding steady, it’s not necessarily exciting and the rest of the cast is underwhelming.
Overall, the team just hasn’t found its footing. Defensive lapses, lack of forward depth, uneven goaltending, and special-teams struggles have all contributed to the recent skid. Games have slipped away quickly — sometimes early, sometimes late — and the IceHogs haven’t strung together enough full 60-minute efforts to keep pace with the rest of the division. Too often, they’ve had stretches of strong play undone by a handful of costly mistakes.
Rockford will need to tighten up its structure, limit the breakdowns, and get more reliable play on special teams if it wants to keep the season from drifting too far off course before the calendar hits January — especially with the Texas Stars nipping at their heels in the standings.
Note: For this report, any player under 25 at the start of the season and with an NHL contract will be considered a Blackhawks prospect. Additionally, a skater will need to have hit 10 games and a goalie five with the IceHogs to be included.
