The Blackhawks transferred forward Andrew Shaw to long-term injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 30, on Monday. Chicago also recalled defenseman Adam Boqvist and forward Matthew Highmore from the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League.
Shaw has missed four games with a concussion, and will be eligible to return Dec. 27 against the Islanders. He has three goals and 10 points in 26 games this season.
Shaw joins forward Drake Caggiula on LTIR with a concussion. Caggiula, who has missed 13 games with his second concussion in a calendar year, has been skating in practices and is eligible to return.
It’s the second time this season the Blackhawks have called up Boqvist, who scored his first career NHL goal in his second game Nov. 3 at Anaheim during his six-game stint. He had five assists in nine AHL games after he was sent back to Rockford. The Blackhawks will use the first year of his entry-level contract if he plays in at least four more NHL games.
Boqvist is eligible to play for Sweden at the 2020 World Junior Championship, which runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in the Czech Republic. Rockford head coach Derek King told Second City Hockey a week ago there have been discussed about whether to let Boqvist play in the tournament or not, but a final decision hasn’t been made.

Highmore was re-assigned to Rockford only a week ago after recording a 55.56 Corsi-For rating and no points in two games. He had two assists in three AHL games in his return to the IceHogs to increase his season point total to 12 (four goals, eight assists) in 21 games.
