Blackhawks playoff chase: April 2

The Blackhawks have three regular-season games remaining and are trying to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs after a one-year absence. Each day until the Blackhawks are officially eliminated from playoff contention, Second City Hockey will breakdown their chances at a playoff spot.

Monday’s results

With the Avalanche rallying for a 2-0 deficit to force overtime in St. Louis, the Blackhawks needed to push for overtime too in order to avoid elimination. Chicago did just that, but former Blackhawk draft pick Kevin Hayes scored 3:38 into overtime for a 4-3 Jets win. Colorado fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Blues.

The Golden Knights ended a five-game losing with a 3-1 win and eliminated the Oilers from playoff contention.

Tuesday’s scoreboard watch

The Blackhawks are idle Tuesday, but they’ll be cheering on the Oilers, who visit the Avalanche. If Colorado records at least a point, Chicago will be eliminated from playoff contention for a second straight year.

The Wild host the Jets and the Coyotes welcome the Kings.
