GM Stan Bowman had premonition Blackhawks would move up to No. 3 in 2019 NHL Draft

Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman’s dream came true Tuesday night in Toronto.

The Blackhawks moved up from the No. 12 spot to No. 3 overall during the NHL Draft Lottery. And for Bowman, it didn’t really come as a surprise.

Chicago has drafted at No. 3 overall five times in franchise history: Toews (2006), Cam Barker (2004), Eddie Olczyk (1984), Denis Savard (1980) and Terry Caffery (1966). Toews has won three Stanley Cup championships with the Blackhawks since 2010 and along with Savard was named to the league’s Top Greatest Players of all-time.

As Bowman notes, the last time the Blackhawks were in Vancouver for the draft they selected Toews with the No. 3 pick. This year’s draft is back in Vancouver and will be June 21-22 at Rogers Arena.

Chicago has seven picks: first, second, two fourths, fifth, sixth and seventh.
