4 ex-Blackhawks win medals at 2018 Winter Olympics

The 2018 Winter Olympics didn’t have any current NHL players, but that doesn’t mean the Chicago Blackhawks weren’t represented on the podium. Four former Blackhawks won medals Saturday in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Defenseman Christian Ehroff (2016) took silver with Germany’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Olympic Athletes from Russia. Rene Bourque (2005-08), Andrew Ebbett (2009) and Rob Klinkhammer (2008-11) claimed bronze with Canada’s 6-4 win over Jiri Sekac (2016) and the Czech Republic.

Ehroff had a goal and assist in seven games for the Germans during the tournament.

Ebbett scored twice against the Czechs, while Klinkhammer had two assists. Bourque also had a helper in the bronze-medal game.

Petri Kontiola (2004 draft pick, 2007-09) led all former Hawks in scoring with six points (two goals, four assists) for Finland, who fell 1-0 to Canada in the quarterfinals. Finnish defenseman Sami Lepisto (2011-12) was right behind Kontiola in scoring with five points (two goals, three assists). Bourque was the top goal scorer among former Chicago players with three.
