The Chicago Blackhawks didn’t waste much time making some moves after an ugly weekend, calling up forward Joakim Nordstrom and goaltender Scott Darling from the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday night. The duo replaces Ryan Hartman and Antti Raanta, who were sent down to AHL to make room.
Hartman, 20, made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on Feb. 13 against the New Jersey Devils, and appeared in the team’s next four games. He failed to record a point, however, and outside of a couple highlight hits, there just wasn’t much to get excited about.
Raanta also appeared in the team’s 6-2 loss to the Bruins on Sunday, taking over for Corey Crawford in the second period. He didn’t fare much better, though, and will now get to take some extra reps in Rockford.
As for the two guys heading to Chicago, they’re obviously familiar to us at this point. Nordstrom was up with the team earlier this year, though he only recorded two assists in 24 games. The forward has produced better numbers in Rockford, where he’s put up 16 points in 23 games.
The ‘Hawks also shook up their goaltending situation with Darling back in. The 26-year-old has a .927 save percentage and 2.20 GAA in 26 AHL games. He’s actually performed even better in his stints with Chicago, running a .937 save percentage and 1.97 GAA.
The one guy the ‘Hawks didn’t call up, on the other hand, is Teuvo Teravainen. The team’s top prospect will remain in Rockford, though I think it’s fair to say the team’s bigger issues these days are on the defensive end. Teuvo, as talented and exciting as he is, probably wouldn’t help much there.
