Morning Bag Skate: ‘NHL 15’ released, and possible goalie controversies for two teams

It’s been a weird start to the week for the sports world, but luckily we’re less than a month from the first puck drop of the NHL season. EA Sports also released NHL 15 today, which I’m certainly excited to pick up even with the lack of features at launch. I’ll certainly write up a brief review of the game soon if any of you are interested. Anyways, let’s catch up with the latest hockey news.

**Brad Richards is up for Tracey Myers in her player previews (CSN Chicago)

**Let’s check in on the View From The Top series over at Hockee Night, where they covered the Carolina Hurricanes yesterday (Hockee Night)

**Bruce Levenson’s questionable history concerning race doesn’t just include the e-mail that’s led to the sale of his Hawks shares, as Greg Wyshynski looks back at his time owning the Thrashers (Puck Daddy)

**Darcy Kuemper doesn’t sound happy about being the third wheel behind Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding in Minnesota’s goaltender situation, and now he’s considering KHL offers. The Wild reportedly want to give him a two-way deal, which he’s not having after a solid postseason performance last spring. (Pro Hockey Talk)

**Speaking of goalies, it sounds like the Hurricanes want to commit to either Cam Ward or Anton Khudobin as the main guy by the start of the season (Raleigh News & Observer)

**Alex Ovechkin said that his right knee was at “less than 50 percent” when playing for Russia in the World Hockey Championships in May. (The Score)

**Looks like Penguins first-round pick Kasperi Kapanen will miss the Rookie Tournament due to a lingering hand injury. So I guess that’s one big name the Baby Hawks won’t have to play in a few days. (Penguins)

**The Rangers are giving Ryan Malone a chance after his cocaine arrest. Doesn’t sound like the league has any punishment in mind. (New York Post)

**The NHL officially named Stephane Quintal the league’s senior vice president of player safety. He had previously held the gig in an interim role since taking over for Brendan Shanahan in April. (Pro Hockey Talk)

**The Red Wings‘ search for a right-handed defenseman continues after Raphael Diaz decided to accept a tryout offer from the Flames (Pro Hockey Talk)

**Raffi Torres won’t undergo ACL surgery until later this month (CSN Bay Area)
