Blackhawks place Marcus Kruger on IR; recall Erik Gustafsson from AHL

The Chicago Blackhawks have placed forward Marcus Kruger on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson in a corresponding roster move Monday.

Kruger, 25, underwent successful surgery to repair a dislocated left wrist Dec. 18. His timetable to return is ‘approximately four months. He has one assist in 33 games this season, although he’s played his usual role as a key penalty killer and defensive stopper on the fourth line.

Phillip Danault, 22, has taken his spot at center. He has not registered a point since his call up, but has one goal and one assist in six games for the IceHogs this season.

Gustafsson, 23, has three assists and a 64.2 percent Corsi at even strength in six games. He’s been great for Rockford this season, too with 11 points (three goals and eight assists) in 27 games. He’s averaging more than 2.4 shots per game, which is among the highest figures on the team.
