Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat records his 300th OHL career point

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat recorded his 300th career point in the Ontario Hockey League with an assist for the Erie Otters against the Saginaw Spirit in the second period Saturday.

DeBrincat, 19, entered the game three points shy of the milestone. He recorded two assists in the first period before dishing out another in the second to become the second Otter this season to reach the milestone, joining teammate Dylan Strome. DeBrincat and Strome are among three players in Erie franchise history to hit 300 points along with Brad Boyes (309).

Just nine days ago, DeBrincat passed Boyes as Erie’s all-time leading goal scorer and he’s showing no signs of slowing down in his third season with the Otters. He has 45 goals and 51 assists for 96 points in 46 games this season. He has scored 51 goals and at least 101 points in his previous two campaigns.

The Hawks signed DeBrincat to a three-year entry-level contract Nov. 7, 2016. He’s eligible to be called by up the Hawks once Erie’s season is over, although it’s hard to see him getting a NHL call so quickly. If the Hawks do want to see more from him, it’s more likely he’ll be sent to the Rockford IceHogs of the American League Hockey.

Chicago drafted DeBrincat with the No. 39th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.
