Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat becomes Erie Otters’ all-time leading goal scorer

Alex DeBrincat is rewriting the record books for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.

The Chicago Blackhawks prospect scored two goals in a 5-4 Erie win against the Peterborough Petes on Thursday to surpass Brad Boyes to become the Otters’ all-time leading goal scorer in franchise history with 142 career goals. He’s third all-time in points behind current teammate Dylan Strome (313 and counting) and Boyes (309).

DeBrincat, 19, is on a tear this season with 40 goals and 83 points in 42 games this season. He has already tallied back-to-back 100-point seasons that each included 51 goals.

The Hawks signed DeBrincat to a three-year entry-level contract Nov. 7, 2016. He’s eligible to be called up by the Hawks once Erie’s season is over, although it’s hard to see him getting an NHL call so quickly. It’s more likely, he’ll get sent to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League to begin his professional career.
