The Blackhawks have made their first free-agent signing of the summer: veteran forward Dominic Toninato to a two-year deal worth $850,000 annually.

Toninato, who turned 31 in March, played in just five games with the Winnipeg Jets last season and did not record a point in any of those games. He was a bigger contributor in the AHL, where he played 60 games with the Manitoba Moose last season and had 36 points (18 G, 18 A).

He was a fifth-round pick (126th overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs back in the 2012 NHL Draft and debuted during the 2017-18 season with the Colorado Avalanche. Across eight seasons with three different teams, Toninato has appeared in 189 games with 35 points (13 G, 22 A) and an average ice time of just 9:07.

Everything in those last two paragraphs suggests Toninato is likely to spend more of his time next season in Rockford than in Chicago.
