As I got home from the United Center tonight I saw the Hawks have traded for Kris Versteeg. Stan Bowman has sent Jimmy Hayes and Dylan Olsen to the Panthers for the best rapper from the 2010 Stanley Cup team. The Hawks also received someone named Philippe Lefebvre. Check out the Hockey’s Future write up for info on Lefebvre. The absolute best part of the deal is that the Panthers will be paying $2.5 of his $4.7 million salary for the rest of this year and the next two seasons. Yeah, this Bowstink guy needs a clue!
I love this move because you are getting a dynamic forward for next to nothing. He will be able to come in and play on any line and mix in well with guys like Brandon Saad. The Hawks are one of the deepest teams in the league and they just got deeper. This most likely means Jeremy Morin will be breaking out his I-Pass in the morning.
The final reason I love this trade is that my Versteeg jersey is relevant again! Now if we just get Michal Rozsival to give up #32.
