Blackhawks’ Tyler Motte likely out 2-3 weeks with lower-body injury

Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Motte will likely miss 2-3 weeks with a lower-body injury, coach Joel Quenneville told the media after Tuesday’s practice.

Motte suffered the injury in the second period of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Stars and didn’t return. The 2013 fourth-round pick went awkwardly into the boards and was slow to get up, but did get to his feet under his own power. He hobbled to the dressing room, holding his left leg.

Motte, who left the University of Michigan a year early after signing a three-year entry-level deal this spring, has been the Hawks’ most impressive rookie this season. He has three goals and three assists in 12 games.

In other news, Andrew Desjardins will play Wednesday when the Hawks visit the St. Louis Blues. Desjardins was activated Nov. 5 after being on injured reserve since Oct. 10 with a foot injury he suffered from blocking a shot during a preseason game. Corey Crawford will get the start in net.
