Here’s the 1st power play goal by Brian Campbell in exactly 2 years

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brian Campbell scored a power play goal in the first period against the Washington Capitals on Friday night, which is probably way less common than you think. It’s the first time Campbell has scored a goal with a man advantage in exactly two years.

Campbell isn’t a big-time shooter, instead operating more as a playmaker, so he doesn’t usually take booming shots from the blue line. He ripped that one past Braden Holtby, though, and showed that he can still rear back and fire one off when he gets the time and space.

Gustav Forsling and Marian Hossa got assists on the play, which tied the game up briefly after Washington scored a shorthanded goal.

The last time Campbell put one in on the power play was Nov. 11, 2014 during a game between the Panthers and Islanders. He didn’t record a single power play goal during the 2015-16 season, scoring five at even strength and one shorty. From 2006-15, he scored at least one PP goal each season and 30 in total.

This season, Campbell is up to two goals and five assists partially through his 15th game.
