Chicago Blackhawks top prospect Dylan Sikura fell short of being named to Team Canada for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The full roster for Pyeongchang was announced by Hockey Canada on Thursday afternoon, and Sikura’s name was absent from the roster full of players from outside the NHL.
Sikura, 23, was one of a few college players being considered for the Canadian national team. He made a recent appearance with it at the 2017 Spengler Cup, where he recorded one assist in four games.
Apparently that wasn’t enough to convince management to invite him as 14 other forwards were selected. That group includes familiar faces for NHL fans such as Derek Roy, Wojtek Wolski, Mason Raymond, and Ben Scrivens.
Sikura would’ve been the youngest player on the team had he been invited. Instead, there will be a pair of 25-year-olds, Christian Thomas and Quinton Howden, who lead the way there.
Rather than head to Pyeongchang, Sikura will continue playing his senior season at Northeastern, where he’s recorded 26 points in 17 games. Hopefully, he signs his entry-level contract with the Blackhawks upon the conclusion of the NCAA season and begins his NHL career.
