Cash Rules Everything Around Me

Dovetailing from one of the questions that was posed during the roundtable to other members of the braintrust that is the Hawks blogosphere, we now ask you the reader to submit to us in the comments moves you would make to fill out the roster using CapGeek’s wonderful calculator. The page should be pretty self-explanatory to use (mostly drag-and-drop), complete with the pasteable version of your roster at the bottom of the page. Here’s my roster, arranged into projected lines:

(these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $59,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,439,090; BONUSES: $390,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $350,910

As you can see, the obvious moves of Cristobal Huet being disposed of, and Jordan Hendry coming back at his $600K hit from last year have been factored in. Additionally, a move that we’ve been calling for, adding Jay McKee into Brent Sopel’s role in the third pair has been made, and in my opinion, Kyle Beach makes the team as they break camp. I tossed Nathan Davis into the mix just because it seems like he’s been in the system forever, though no team ever has enough Rob Klinkhammer on it. All this puts the Hawks $350K under the cap to start the season, which is enough room to have a couple guys do the Rockford Shuffle as Coach Q sees fit based on production.

Post your rosters in the comments and don’t hesitate to give explanations why, and for the sake of keeping things readable, don’t reply with a full roster copy/paste, start a new comment thread if you’ve got one. It’ll be interesting to see who’s got the most interesting option for a depth defenseman or forward that hasn’t been mentioned yet.
