Holy jumpin’!
Contractually obligated to use that sentence whenever his name comes up, right?
Anyway, according to a report from Scott Powers of The Athletic, the Blackhawks are going to hire Darren Pang for a TV broadcast role.
Pang has been part of St. Louis Blues’ broadcasts for the last 14 seasons but the deeper portions of his hockey roots reach back to Chicago, where he appeared in 81 games as a Blackhawks goalie between 1984 and 1989, posting a 27-35-7 record, 4.05 goals-against average and .882 save percentage. The 1987-88 season was his best, with Pang picking up all-rookie honors and finishing third in the Calder Trophy voting that season before injuries directed him towards the broadcast booth.
He’s been more well-known for his career as a hockey analyst, popping up on national broadcasts across a wide range of networks for the last few decades. Per the Powers report, Pang will maintain his work with national broadcasts on TNT alongside his new gig with the Blackhawks.
Pang’s addition also means a departure is forthcoming, with Colby Cohen apparently headed elsewhere, per the tweet below:
***Personal News***
My family and I want to thank the Wirtz family and the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization for a two great years working for one of the greatest organizations in sports. We will miss the thunderous noise of the United Center and the great city of Chicago…
