After a week of arrows pointing in that direction, the Blackhawks made the pick that majority of projections were forecasting for the No. 3 pick of the 2025 NHL Draft: Swedish forward Anton Frondell.

Frondell, who turned 18 in May, spent last season split between two leagues in his native Sweden. The second half of the season was the better part for Frondell, who finished with 25 points (11 G, 14 A) in 29 games while playing with Djurgårdens in HockeyAllsvenskan, which is the second-tier league in Swedish hockey. He also had some strong international moments while playing for Team Sweden in the U-18 Five Nations tournament in February.

As of the 2025 scouting combine, Frondell was billed at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, giving him the size and strength that could embody the legitimate No. 1 center who can be effective on all portions of the ice. If Frondell ends up anywhere near the player he’s been emulating in his career, then the Blackhawks will be set up for the next decade-plus.
