A pending restricted free agent is under contract for a couple more years after the Blackhawks announced on Thursday afternoon that they’d come to terms with defenseman Louis Crevier on a new deal.

It’s a two-year contract worth $900,000 annually.

Crevier, who turned 24 in May, originally joined the Blackhawks as a seventh-round pick (No. 188 overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. He’s already defied most expectations simply by making it to the NHL, which is rare for someone picked so late in the draft. He’s up to 56 games in his NHL career after skating in 32 last season, logging an average ice time of 17:17 with 4 points (3 G, 1 A).

He certainly adds to the overall size of the blue line at 6-foot-8 and 228 pounds and provided solid enough depth minutes towards the bottom of Chicago’s defensive rotations. He’ll likely stay there for the short-term future but more steps forward would likely be needed from him to carve out a longer future in Chicago, as there are a whole slew of D prospects coming behind him with much higher projected ceilings.
